The Length of Your Labor

A study out of the University of Michigan (Go Blue!!) found that anxious women labored significantly longer than calm women. There is also evidence that the more worried and conflicted she is during delivery, the greater the chances of complications.

This makes sense from a physical standpoint because if you are nervous, you are more likely to be holding that anxiety by way of clenching your muscles. You might also be subconsciously holding your baby in because you are scared of what is to come.

Practice relaxing to music throughout your pregnancy! If you plan to use a playlist during labor and delivery, even better to practice to the exact music you will hear in the delivery room. It will help condition you to relax for the real thing!
